If you are looking for a way to import (pull) Usenet groups (NNTP) then a utility has been written and can be found here: https://github.com/TheMajorBBS/NNTPImporter

This means you do not require a host that will push an NNTP feed to you.

oh man do i have a story for that... not sure when you came onboard but there used to be a netvillage reseller called Worldgroupware
and they sent a church my way that had originally connected to groups.google.com and pulled feeds so when google did away with that,
yeah, long story short, i spent forever playing with that addon; good to see someone taking interest in the old net addons.

IIt was at the request of a community member, hopefully others find it useful.
