MajorTCP is/was sold by Vircom. And as far as I know, they don't sell licenses anymore.
BTW if you want to share files to your friend, you could always use the HTTP server. That one doesn't crashes :)

Oh and I only want version 6.5 it if it's permitted by Duckula. The Free Edition of Major BBS is 6.25 but a small subrevision like 6.5 might be ok too we need to see what he says but it's not the Major BBS 7, 9 or 10 that Questman was talking about.

Kraken I'm not using FTP to share files to a friend LOL. Once you build this in virtual box all you have is DOS so you need a way to upload files into the VM easy. So to do that I upload the Infinity Complex from my linux machine to the DOS vm through Major BBS FTP server. Thats the best way to get files on to it is to FTP like that. See what I;m saying? I don't share files from the Major BBS FTP server but I use it to get files into the DOS VM.

AH ok , you want to remote update your files through FTP. Well then, bummer FTPD is broken on it.
Tried 2 archives of galico1 and they crashes.
GALICO2 won't work as well as it expects GALHPAC.DLL which is the other tcp stack

Thanks Kraken, Bloodrock, Duckula and Questman. You are a great bunch of people and have helped me so much. Just a little more work from all of us and I think this Major BBS Free Edition could be perfect.

Kraken says it works in DOSBox so we can make a install package to distribute it and make it easy to use once all the bigs get worked out. DOSBox is totally free and there is no issues with that. I don't think but the EFF might be able to tell us for sure.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!

Alan, we are talking about 30 year old tech running in a virtual environment. It will not be perfect. The ONLY way to run it as it was back in the day is on a physical machine running DOS with specfic drivers for your hardware. The VM can't replicate this 100%. No virtual environment can.

Personally i would ONLY run the Telnet module and disable the others (ftp, www, finger) in the basic utilities -> enable/disable modules utility.

These days telnet is really the only method worth connecting with anyway for v6.25.

As for needing ftp, why? If you need to add files to the bbs then create an ISO file and attach it to the VM just like you did with the mbbs virtualbox ISO that contains all the MBBS v6.25 Free edition files. Then copy/install them as required. Simple.

:-D I'm sure if you can peek at the source code, you'll find something flaky in there.
Seems compliant to RFC initially, the session looks fine, I tried fooling around:

xubuntu ~ $ telnet 192.168.159.150 21
Trying 192.168.159.150...
