I've been trying to login to remote bbs's a few times lately, and my client keeps freezing at different times...
Both on my desktop and my laptop...
I remember a long time ago, when windows XP first came out, there was some settings you could change to optimize the tcp/ip settings for telnet and that would help what's happening to me now...
Is this right, or maybe there's a small program that could do it?
Any suggestions? I plan on formatting my pc soon, but my laptop will be staying as is, and i can't telnet out from there either...
Thanks for any help!

Assuming you have a local network here. If so, you can try adding in the SPX/IPS protocols on your network adaptor so they can handle your local network traffic. Takes some of the workload of the TCP/IP and has been known to help with fussy telnet connections.
If this doesn't help, perhaps some more information on what is happening would help us help you. Client, any error messages, ect.

Well, there is a local network here, but the computers don't really talk to each other much at all. I transfer files over it once in a long while, but not often at all, and i don't do much that's tcp/ip at the same time...
I tried closing everything on my main pc except Yahoo Messenger, and then telnet'd out, and the same thing was happening...
The telnet client I use most of the time is the built in Windows Telnet... it will give long pauses of lag, and just tell me it's disconnected...
some times it takes 30 seconds from first connection, some times 5 minutes...
My laptop runs lots of services that I can't stop that use tcp/ip, so i'm planning on formatting my main computer and starting it over. that hasn't been done for almost 4 years now, and i think it needs it anyway...
Thanks!

Are you up to date with all your service packs, security updates, and using the most recent version of YIM? Also how much memory does your computer have?
