I don't think the bbs reads the msg text files.Drex wrote:Just wondering if game mcv's are copied into a freshly setup TA editor, will it update all the correct file's like the taelist etc. ? or do the msg files have to be included.
it only checks them agaisnt the bin files, msv to see if it needs to recompile the text to update them.
only the config program reads and writes to the msg files.

Yeah I was meaning if the mcv's are pasted into the editor, can it then be continued to be worked on, without crashing the board when updating on their.

you can't edit on a running system.Drex wrote:frcorey wrote:

because after the editor is done it calls the reindexing program and that would be no fun.
plus the game would not reread the mcv files again.
plus I don't even think the system would let the editor run while the main system is running. on a wg 3.2 system you would get a error like, can't start,
another wg process is running. as a side note thou,
I used to edit my msg files in a dos command window with a text editor. which is not advised unless you really know the proper msg file format. I would edit them, and then login the bbs system and run a cleanup. this will bring the system down, check the msg files for changes and reindex them if nesasary, and then reload the whole system. but like I said, if you don't know what you are doing, the system will choke on a msg file error and go down. and if you are not at the console you would get a kind of a load and crash type of loop thing going on.

simular thing.Drex wrote:Think we are on the wrong page, should have mentioned wg2.0, anyways I copied over the mcv's and they didnt take...still shows the stock settings (in the editor) like 3096 room's... oh well. Thanks tho.
wg only reads mcv files. you have to get wg to reindex the files for wg to read them back in.
or force wg to reindex them. I think the util is in the util menu. also, dan said once that a lot of limits are capped in TA, so it might not even read in after a certain point. but yeah, you need to reindex the msg files for the bbs to read the new ones.
Re: TA mcv's
no, MCVs are written out with game data nothing is read.Drex wrote:Just wondering if game mcv's are copied into a freshly setup TA editor, will it update all the correct file's like the taelist etc. ? or do the msg files have to be included.
Re: TA mcv's

after you compile fresh MCV files with TAEDIT run MCV.EXE to convert them to MSG and copy the MSG files.Drex wrote:Think we are on the wrong page, should have mentioned wg2.0, anyways I copied over the mcv's and they didnt take...still shows the stock settings (in the editor) like 3096 room's... oh well. if you do not have MCV.EXE
manually delete the .H headers of each MCV and it wil ltake
