monster experience

Post by dspain »

i have been asked by other sysops how the tele-arena experience algorithim works, and quite frankly an overhaul is overdue but im not changing it quite yet atleast with this version.

currently a set number is created during monster generation, and when a player hits a monster it calculates a number based off of monster experience, and the players level.

problem is that number never reduces itself, so say a flame giant is generated with an experience value of 10,000
no matter how many players whack on him its always 10k modified.

in XanthaMud i created a system where all monsters get an experience value
during generation and that is never awarded except to the killing party.

so the above flame giant is generated with 10k experience, when ya kill him you get 10k, if you kill him in a group of 4 you get 10,000 / 4

Tele-arena though has always been known for being able to gain experience not only for killing but for trying to kill something as well and i dont think we need to change that, but i want to find a way to reduce the speed of experience gaining.
after the release of the next patch it will be a 100% playable core game with every command from original usable with a few minor additions.
during that time i will be playing with the experience modifiers and trying to slow it down to make leveling a little more prolonged than it is now.

One thought for making leveling take longer is to require more more experience for the next level, like lv 2 could require 3k exp instead of the 1 point something K needed now...

Just a thought...

thats another one of the things i coverd in XanthaMud, max level in that game is 100 and i have control over every point of experience

i set each level's required experience.

in Tele-Arena i wanted to keep the algorithims the same so old players would come back and not have to change nothing in their gameplay or style.
