I believe I read somewhere that a DMA server could not do rlogin out functions awhile back. Not sure if it was in the major tcp/ip instruction manual or something else, but I've often wondered if one could actually use rlogin out.
Of course, when in DMA mode, rlogin and telnet in are disabled, but was rlogin out disabled too? In the test worldgroup 1.01 dos setup, it wasn't disabled.
So, why would any one want to run a Synchronet Game Server through a DMA server? and how would it work?
The why: to my knowledge, there has never been a way to share real multinode BBS doorgames from one system to several bbs systems. Registration and resource sharing, as well as having more players to play with or against on the server would be the main benefits.
How does it work? When running Synchronet as a rlogin/door game server, it pretty much picks up one address to prevent nick collision, although it can be set for multiple addresses. The only IP address it will need is the DMA server's IP, and then all bbs connections go through the DMA server, not the synchronet game server directly. So, all of the synchronet server connections will be coming from the DMA server's IP address.
When each DMA client (the bbs systems connecting to the dma server) has its own identifier (A, B, C, whatever) set, it adds that to the end of each nickname which accesses the door game server and there are no nick collisions that way.
There are two cons though. First, both client and servers have to use a static ip address, and secondly, the dma client is expensive, if you can even get it. Third, it would probably be easy to make a dma client for synchronet or other bbs systems as well so that they could all interact with each other, if people knew how the dma server worked, but that has not happened yet. Forth and lastly, there currently isn't a way to go directly to a synchronet game if the synchronet server has multiple games. So, instead, people logging on through the client would instead go to a menu and then go through a list of other menus and/or games.
This should technically be usable with any type of application which allows rlogin information to be passed through it, like trade wars game server, etc.
DMA + Door Game Server Working Hand in Hand

Well, I talked to him several years ago, and he was actually suppose to add an authentication system to gameserv on his next release. This was several years ago, and at least one or two versions of gameserv have come out since.
This authentication system was suppose to be work like this: the server side would be setup with a user (or bbs) id and password, and when the client side would log on to the bbs and pass on this information, the server would set an identifier for each bbs, like a DMA server, to prevent nick collision.
