Tradewars access Violation need help???

Post by SouthernCross »

I installed Tradewars, everything was fine on the install. I entered my old access keys and they worked. However, my dreams of once again playing Tradewars was shattered by this

c:wgserv\wgserver.exe-Access Violation Attempt to read from 13846008

The wg button that pos up states:

Unrecognized errorlevel=107341819 returned from WGSERVER.EXE

IS there another setting i should set so that it reads what it is looking for correctly, or is my dreams of playing TW on WG 3.XX. pretty much that :(

Thanks everyone for your help.

conflicting modules

Post by SouthernCross »

ok i managed to get al ot of the errors donw, but now both tradwars and the rose are conflicting with majormud and the wcc bank and text files.

Is there a setting to make them not conflict with other programs?

Thanks
Dave

Did you run HVSTELL.EXE? (this will give a list problems) also did you set the universe up fully before starting the bbs. The nt version is a bit different to install. After you run the install to the bbs dir:

Enter your codes, if you cant, do it after step 1

(run all below from dos until installed)

1 run HVSTWININ.EXE this will ready the files for bigbang (run HVSTWZAP.BAT first if thier was a universe, all game data is cleared)

2 Setup the universe and let bigbang run.

3 Run HVSTWEDIT.EXE to complete the rest of the settings for the game and univerese (write down ferrengul's location you'll need it later)

4 Run HVSTWFIX.bat to check the tw2002 files, after this goto CNF, Security, and set all the settings.

5 At this point I would disable mud and rose from offline CNF (WGSMOD)

6 Start the bbs, it should work. if not run hvstell.exe again for a list of conflicts.

7 Enable your other modules. The bbs shouldn't have any problems starting. I have tw loading first then elwynor and others, then mud. If you do try finding HVS's top module loader (good luck with a code).

DO NOT ENTER TWPRO editor while online you will crash the bbs every time.

You should be able to get into the game config from the offline editor in
offline CNF.

Set Ferrengul up, they regen but not fighters in home sector or planet assets. You can edit fighters in the sector, on the planet etc.
thier will be no mention of the "Ferrengi Moved At 12:01" in the daily log.

Their is no file for external maintnance so you dont need to add it to wgsclean.bat. Thier some other things missing aswell.

I have been running this version for a while now and also have the dos flavor running on WG2 dos box which users connect to from the WG32NT.

I have detailed game setup info on the my bbs from the tw game menu.

If you want to see it running or need more help I should be around today and tommorow, page me on my bbs. http or telnet.

Partly Worked

Post by SouthernCross »

That worked perfect for the rose, no problems registering or anything.

The issue still partly remains with Tradewars..

I get the original error from the top of the post. Is this a cache issue?

Thanks

What is max users set at in CNF for TW? set it to 0 or 16, 32, the lowest # possible # of channels be sure not to exceesd license count of TW and WG. I have it set to zero (defualts to user count of WG). The other maybe a dos based file related to TW in the dir, remove them if thier are any. Have you tried removeing tw completely delete all the HVS files and dir then reinstalling? Is your code entered correctly?

i run the rose alongside majormud, SOC, SOC (edited), Tele-Arena 2008, Tele-Arena II, and Galactic Empire 4.0, all with no problems under Worldgroup 3.12 and 3.20.

i have a ton more installed too i just listed the ones that are mainly database games.

anyhow, i dont now what the problem could be, contact Metro and tell them to be sure they included the key fix supplied by runtime computing for registrations over 8 users.
regarding TW2002, there are a ton of things you can do to fix some of the early-on problems but if ya ever get a popular game going (i have had as many as 13 at the same time) you get massive errors mainly btrieve query and absolution errors.
you can download doorserv and run it alongside the $15 bbs version running in majorbbs mode, or the $65 twgs and run multiple games through an rlogin port and you will get much better results.
better to catch em now before you get a good game going only to have players lose everything .

It works with everything so far. The problem with it was setting up the registry to accept more handles etc. After that everything fell into place.
