Why MajorMUD

Just curious, every active WG board I go to has a version of MajorMUD and usually has several players. Now I went through the entire BBS list at Metro and found that 80% of the boards listed were offline, but that still left quite a few that were active when I logged on.

Why the lasting interest in this game vs other WG games?

Probably the most true to linux mud on worldgroup. Largest wg/mbbs mud out there (appx 40k rooms with all addons?), multiplaying (2-4 per person), scripting/megamud (i haven't tried megamud, but I believe I've read that it will play majormud almost 100% for ya, no player intervention needed).

The thought of writing just descriptions for 40k rooms is mind boggling, but the fact that the game seems to be outlasting the BBS genre leads me to think that a cooperative effort to delevelop an additional MUD type game with CS/telnet/Web access might be worth considering.

Majormud has kept WG alive these past years,if you put up a WG bbs with many games but not MMUD you will soon find that you have very few people stop by.
I believe that if MMUD does go the way of a indepenent server without WG
WG's days would be numbered.....Which I hope they don't do,I run 2 bbses with MUD
A big draw was the teleconference until instant messengers came along, now tele is always empty.
T-Lord still is a big draw but they play for the day and then leave.
Just my thoughts

the written of CrossRoads made his program into a server.
and he got back most of his following from the bbs days.

personally I think he just stripped out a mbbs into the server thou.

b/c 95% of the people i have ever seen script it.
so its something they can do while at work, let their pc play the game for them.

majormud players would play at keys more if metro hadn't abandoned the code and quit coming out with modules. They are a lame company with dimwitted employees. Owning one of the largest majormud (if not worldgroup) bbs's around, I have seen majormud players come and go for a while now. Usually the reason why they leave is boredom. Metro messed up the code and made it so easy for players to lvl, that the norm is lvl 50+... no challenge = no players.

Its a real shame what metro did if you ask me.. some of us are still trying to put life back into the game, but you can only get so far with hexing..

There has always been interest in majormud. Some of us from forumshq.com have been creating edits for years now.

That seems kinda pointless...what fun is it if you don't actually play it? Am I still missing something...

...I did notice that though in my travels to various BBS's and forums.

where you modify compiled programs and manipulate binary data files.

With programs like Nightmare Redux around now.. ppl no longer realize what we had to go thru BEFORE majormud editors came about :) I still call it hexing because thats essentially what it is.
