I decided to try bypassing the dsl mode and router completely, just to see if it was the computer or any software blocking worldgroup, and dialed out to an isp with the pc with worldgroup on it, and then telnetted in through another pc with the adsl modem, and it worked fine.
So... it has to be the dsl modem that's causing the problems..
I will contact my isp to see if they have any thing to say, but I doubt they'll know much about it.

sorry.. this was suppose to go to a reply to the other telnet thread..
after contacting my isp, i finally got the problem resolved... if any one has any problems with their speedstream dsl modem, the new firmware doesn't have a menu settings for bridge mode... You have to do a hard reset on the modem itself, by shoving a pin in the little hole in the bottom of the modem for about 10 seconds, and do not http in to the speedstream modem. Go directly to your router and use PPPoe (if that's the way you logged in through the modem) and put in the user name and password, and whatever else the isp requires.. and wala.. the dsl modem just passing on data from the DSL service to the router.
