If any one ever decides to make utilities
These are a few ideas for some utilities in worldgroup that I've been thinking of, if any one ever thinks of programming or improving some utilities for worldgroup.
Some of the modules in Worldgroup itself may need some updating or replacing. For example, the IRC client doesn't support most irc commands or services. Also, when you put in an irc server in the command string, it doesn't do any thing. So, unless I'm missing some other commands there, you can't just put up a list of IRC servers on a worldgroup menu to connect with. Even adding some type of scripting language to IRC would be a neat idea.
The rlogin client and server needs updated so they can be configured to use ports other than 513. With the way they are currently set up, if you want to run a trade wars game server on the same pc through rlogin, then you have to disable worldgroup's rlogin server. Also, let's say you want to run 2 rlogin programs on another PC. Only one will be able to use 513. So, if you for example want to run GameServ and TWGS, one will have to use a port other than 513.
I would personally also like some type of logon announcement module that didn't display before the visitors log in, and will only display to the visitor one time until updated again. With the way it currently works, if you have a full screen ansi menu, the logon announcement pushes the menu out of the viewing area, and since it displays before you actually login, it displays every time you go to the address.

The RLOGIN module is something that I'm looking into. It's possible to do this with a module addon.Malakai wrote: The rlogin client and server needs updated so they can be configured to use ports other than 513. my ico is almost done, you can set each services independant port#The Storm wrote:The RLOGIN module is something that I'm looking into. rlogin,telnet,nntp,smtp,etc.....
thats for wg 3.xx and 4.xx
so far telnet and rlogin work great you can set the ports from 1 - 32767

i agree i been rewriting the complete galico for nt its almost done.
once i get the galico2 im gonna do the same.

if will display each time a user logs on after their supplemental logon is done.
or you cna always use a module i wrote in like 1997 its a bulletins module
loads on login and you can read certain bulletins.
even force users to read certain ones.
i could always strip the registration code scheme out of it and give it to ya.
also ARCGLO (global messenger) is a module i wrote in 2000 that displays users logging on/off and has some other features.
my support bbs is almost done where you can download any of that.
you dont want it shhhhhh i didnt say that ok?Malakai wrote:Hey, that sounds cool. Any thing to make announcements or bullitens would be great too. Thanks for telling me about the galnote.txt. It's better than the system manager's logon announcement.
hey no problem and you can config headers and trailers and add color too it too using wgsdraw/bbsdraw/ or any other editors
The new ico sounds great too.
yes the new ico has been a long road thats finally going downhill
Where can I get worldgroup 4.x, and what new does it offer from 3.30?
i paid all the tea in china for what i got and what pisses me off is its damned near an exact clone of 3.3 with a cpuple additionas like internal whosonline c/s modules and all.
3.2 is actually the best nt build.
beats 3.3 out.
and trust me i have a multi compile setup here i can compile majorbbs/wg1/wg2/wg 3.2/wg 3.3/wg 4.0
and the best ones for a personal bbs is 2.0/dos and 3.2nt
ill put arctic bulletins up here for download for ya within the next couple days.
maybe rick will add me an arcticzone internet solutions forum area

for a personal bbs stick to 3.2 when my ico is released run a synchronet bbs on the same pc as a door game server and you got anything you'll ever need from a good bbs package.
also i have 3.2 damned near 100% ported to microsoft .net using visual c++ for the console apps and microsoft c# for the gui sources.
so great things to come in the future from AIS for wg

Is it true that 4.0 will compile a worldgroup manager that works with xp with out having to be patched? Ok, I suppose that's enough questions about 4.0. I've seen it mentioned on several newsgroups, just googling stuff not even related to that, but apparently it wasn't released to the public or some thing.
The BBS has 3.30 installed. So, hopefully the ICO will work with it, but I kind of wonder if the ol' 950mhz Duron PC would be able to handle both worldgroup, space quest game server, and synchronet game server. I actually just ordered a motherboard and PIII 700mhz cpu, along with a new power supply on EBAY, to build the synchronet game server and have done quite a bit of js and baja modding on it, to get it to look and act like mbbs/wg.
The game server won't be up for a few weeks, because there really isn't any room for the servers. There is another place ready, but some $$$ and a little bit of time is needed to wire up the network connections to the "mini office."
I've also been in between moving myself for the last 3 or 4 months, and probably by the first of next month, I'll be moved. When both the servers are moved to their location and I'm moved to my new location, then I will be able to spend more time and $$$ on the BBS again.

yes it does compile a client for xp
its released just for sale a demo hasnt been put together, the registration schema has changed.

a 950 should be ok pending on how many modules you have running,
if you're running majormud go 1.5+
700 for synchronet 3.13b, perfect.
search for a worldgroup command shell by idell software, thats my name before switching to the arcticzone name
has a 100% working clone of majorbbs and all options even has the major-like telecon and globals

Yeah, I'm not running majormud, and the 950mhz cpu is doing fine for what the modules the BBS has on it so far. I don't think there will be many more modules added in the future. I'm only waiting for 2-4 (mutants, crossroads of the elements, and possibly substriker or farwest trivia) So, it shouldn't be a problem.
It does seem as though there are two types of worldgroup bbs systems. #1: MajorMUD systems and #2: every thing else. I don't have the upload bandwidth for a majormud bbs, but would like to think in the future that the upload bandwidth would become faster. You would think that all broadband ISPs would have at least 512k upload, because of services like xbox live taking up as much as that on some of their games, but there has been a lot of talk about price increases, limitting internet access to only certain sites, because isps are so-called giving us too much bandwidth which is slowly criplling the internet itself.
I've been on the internet starting from the BBS days, when the internet was telnet, ircii, and unix gateways from other bbs systems. In that time, we've went from 2400 baud modems (i wasn't doing the 300 baud thing lol) to 14.4, 28.8, 38.4, etc, ISDN, to various sources of satellite reception, Cable, DSL, and probably others.
Several (5-7?) years ago, I watched a special tv program about BPL. Broadband over Power Lines, which was going to revolutionize internet. It supposedly had the ability to get internet access from many states away and have like 300X faster access than other broadband companies, and be a lot cheaper than other providers. Before DSL came to this area, I waited and waited for BPL, and it never came. A few years later, and some BPL test sites come out, only in small areas, and they barely compete with DSL on speeds and cost.
What was the problem? Maybe people over-estimated the technology when they were first developping it, or was the internet or ISPs just not ready to give that much bandwidth to people, possibly due to it overcrowding the internet. It's not as widespread as they said it would be either. Why would they predict that once this global system is utilized, every one no matter where they were would be able to get it?

i can actually make crossroads run under non majorbbs systems.
problem is, its still a demo copy, lol
i started a game called elements of magic that a die hard Xroads fan helped me on as far as material,maps,etc....
when its odne im gonna release it see if i get forced to shut down or not.
and when i say lookalike i mean its 100% replicated.
people that been helping me test it actually swear to me i got the original source code til they notice features missing.
i runs under worldgroup v3.xx if you want a test copy lemme know ill let you test it as it gets devloped. and give ya a free 8 user copy when its done.

Heck yeah, I'll beta test it for you. You can email me at malakai243 at yahoo.com if/when you have it ready to test.
I see no reason why any one would try to force you to shut it down, because almost all muds, including the big and mighty majormud are clones of other muds. They may have slightly evolved over the years, but there have been several unix muds that I've visited over the years and have noticed some of the same exact areas and such that majormud had, and several other worldgroup and other bbs muds.
Let's not forget blademaster, which is a clone of the pit, and all 300 or so clones of legend of the red dragon. Tournament trivia, a farwest trivia clone, and doormud, a mini clone of majormud. There are probably 30 or more clones of trade wars as well. Kylon's world is a clone of mutants. Clones are a part of BBS history and heritage :/

agreed and 90% of em were cloned for the majorbbs.Malakai wrote:Heck yeah, I'll beta test it for you. You can email me at malakai243 at yahoo.com if/when you have it ready to test.
i got build 1 on arcticzone.dyndns.org

kylons world was originally done for amiga bbs systems on xt 8088's
i know the developer and have the source code but i dont do door development anymore.
and yes muds on worldgroup 98% of the time came from the teleconference code.

DSPAIN, I signed up to your BBS and have tried out the parasalm realms, but it doesn't let me enter the game. It goes to the menu, and when I type "P" for play, it just re-displays the menu.
Any way, my nick in your 2 mbbs systems is malakai.. I'll check it out often and see what kind of new stuff you're working on.

for parasalm realms yes, i havent updated my nt version beyond entering the game and creating a character.
ill get on that

bear with me, trust me whenever i work on something like that it comes out nicely

also whats your wg reg# and bbs info, email me so i can add you to the new html exported wg bbs info.
Is there any possability of me getting a copy of this demo? I have the DOS version of crossroads and mutants already, and have even been considering setting it up on a worldgroup 2.0 dos system for mutants, crossroads, farwest trivia, and galactic empire, blademaster, maybe a few more, but I'd much rather just use 1 worldgroup system to do it all.

not compiled, fixed...grinMalakai wrote:demo of the real version of crossroads. You said you could make it run but it's still a demo. I assumed that you have it compiled for worldgroup..
as i said i have an nt clone i wrote that would be more reccomended than some DLL that was cranked on.
as people learned with the cacked versions of TA2, and logicomm command center back in the day.
messed with DLL's sometimes do more than crack a program.
sometimes they interfere with system stability and internal processes.
for instance logicomm command center when ya cracked ver 1.80 interfered with the btrieve file so it was using mjrbb and deleting all users
not in DEMO mode according to the module rather than users deleted from the logcc.dat file
ta2 made a dagger the most deadliest object in the game but came with a price.
after a few rounds on a monster it killed the system with a cat error.
the problem im running into now with my xroads clone is i have never played the game a day in my life.
im duplicating it from the original message files for description syntax and the c++ port on the net.
