Tele-Arena II

This may seem out of the blue but I used to play this game with a worldgroup manager application back on Sourceror.com over 10 years ago. One day, the game dissapeared, I was just googling around to see if anybody knows what happened to the game and where I may be able to rekindle some old memories of what it used to be like playing it.
I remember playing with the sysops DarkHorse, Feedback and DragonFury, not sure if this rings a bell for anybody.
Anyways, let me know, im anxious to find out if anybody can help, if not here than I am sure nowhere else.
Thanks

Hi! You've come to the right place. Sourceror's Guild was bought by Elwynor - so that included Tele Arena series and Battledroids. TA 2 and Battledroids are available again and there are systems running it. TA 1 is still in the works as there is some re-engineering required to get that back up.
Dan Spain of ArcticZone and I are working together to put out the first new TA game in over a decade. The name isn't set yet, and it's still in beta testing, but there will be an announcement from me as soon as it's available.
As for Tele-Arena II specifically, there are several systems running it. You can try The Light Source - telnet://tls.wetookyour.tv
Welcome to the boards!

Yes, I do not think I am speaking of the same version of the game as you though. I have been able to find Tele-Arena in several text based ANSI telnet servers, however the game I played on Sourceror.com was a graphical based Tele-Arena II using the worldgroup manager client. This is the game I seek to play. I remember after Sourceror.com shut down, there were some Demo's of the graphical version out there, but they had a different map and no white rune even.

We are talking about the same game. Tele-Arena II had the client/server component. Tele-Arena I had a larger map and did not have a c/s component.

Ok, but you said that many servers still have Tele-Arena II running, I cannot find one. Even the one you posted is not the graphical version of the game, at least when I login to it with WGMAN, it goes straight to text based.
Sourceror.com did have the combination of the old map from Tele-Arena I with the Icon and 3D graphics from Tele-Arena II. I know this because I made it to Town 3 with the yellow rune if I remember correctly.
Somebody should just dig up Sean Ferrell and ressurect this gem of a game.

be sure you use the complete C/S client, thereare several floating around people tried piecing together throughout the years, be sure you have the one thats around 2mb in size i have thge originally packaged client from The Sourcerors Guild in 1997 on my server.
problem with TA2 is it is not and never was a finished product, ta1 for dos as Rick stated is much larger and i have built re-engineered binaries for him to redistro but havent gotten around to packaging them up, and a new Ta is in beta 1 soon to be beta 1.1 which will be the release candidate.
however i did not compile these with any C/S support, im one that believes the text based muds should remain text based, but if you want i could always put TA2 online with the graphical side opened.
alot of systems running ta2 didnt setup a c/s page which is why you cant access it.
once i finish this new NT-Tele-arena i will be working with elwynor technologies on somehow incorporating a new database system rather it be the old way or a new way so we can offer ta2 (for c/s fans)
although right now my WGMAN dev kit is hanging up because im missing the brushed chrome widget kit. but the old c/s binaries will work.

oh and yeah, after sourceror.com shutdown someone leaked an initial build but it wasnt the same as on sourceror.com it was missing all the areas.

No, I dont have the client anymore, I remember it having a bunch of graphical icon files in it and the run program was called something like TSGARN. Keep in mind I was rather young (14) back when I last played. Any chance I can get a copy of that client and would that give me the ability to play the game on your site via WGMAN?
I have a bunch of friends who have also been dieing to play this game again, we used to play nonstop on sourceror.com and to be honest, even with all the smoke and whistles of these new billion dollar games (world of warcraft) the art of Tele-Arena will never fade.
The reason why I liked the graphical version is that it added that polished look to the game. I did play text based years earlier via BBS before I got the internet and once I did, upon searching for the game again I stumbled upon Sean Ferrell's site. I continue to use mainly keyboard for movement and everything else, but having a visual of HP/Mana and the ability to cast spells and attack with the mouse greatly improved the game

That's the client program for TA2. The problem is that the BBSes you're calling don't have clients being generated, I'm guessing.

send it to a sysop running ta2 and ask them to compile it into the wg manager and send you a copy.

yeah i finished my first beta of TA with a newer beta due out sometime in the next month which will be the release candidate, then im gonna get with rick and see what we can do with ta2 to offer this graphical version as well, my versions dont support C/S but hopefully we can incorporate a similiar database system into TA2.
ill let ya know.

Well I for one would love to play TA2 again sometime soon. I have good memories of that one from back in the day, and would enjoy the cheesy but awsome graphics again.
If there is anything i can do to help let me know, getting a working verion of it running again would be worth the effort.

yeah problem with this is the version that ran on sourceror.com and a few others is long gone unless a sysop runs a WG2 version that is archive dated of 2/14/97, i have one of the original binary packages but i took my wg2 system down 6 months ago.
ill get with Rick and see what form of flat-file database system the ta2 is running now and work on a way to convert it over.

Questman wrote:Dan - Why wouldn't the current TA2 product work for him?
the worlds not complete. for some reason the WG2 version some have dated from FEB 97 have a different map.
sourceror.com ran a different map also that wasnt in any version i have seen.
after playing with some of the MCV files im wondering if the -D -T DT and DD files are even used?? can you confirm this uses the exact database format as 5.6d? if this is true i could use winmerge and compare the differences and get the other world to work.

i cant speak for the whole game, but for sure i know that, down to the white rune, sewers and flags and the tower were the same maps. The gnoll cave was the same also i think, but thats about as far as i ever got. dunno if this will help but you never know.
A few severs ran a different map set, back then i was told it was the demo version and never was completed, but sourceror at least had these maps that matched.

yeah the version out now is the one that went all new. the original should have the original world, once im done with my Ta project im gonna see what i can do with TA2, after i decompile the MCV's to MSG i can make better sense as to how its loading and go from there, either make a simple editor to write out MCV files or try something all new. with TA2 seems some like that C/S approach.

trying to get her done, for the original i can dupe that easily with my engine, but TA2 already has an NT engine no need to remake any of that just get a way to get the world added on to.

yeah would be great, if you could send me MSG files i can tell ya pretty much what ya got as far as how many rooms, spells, items, etc.. and can actually see how much of a "world" is there.
ill do the same with the version i have for WG2.

Hi, I don't own TA2 but I was considering Registering it so I was reading these posts and I see that the Link to this file is for a file that is only 393KB and it was mentioned that the Full Version of this File should be about 2MB.
Are you guys looking for this file? If so I believe I've got it, the file size is 2035KB. This is what the files READ.ME says.

i got the complete package i recieved with my purchase of TA2 for WG2.
it should work with the ELW unless he made changes to the C/S stuff.
i also have the original archive as well which is dated 8-11-1997

sent, thats the one i got after the GOLD version of 5.6 revision D.
still curious as to why he did away with the old editor format, last editor update i got from TSG was 1.0m with the 5.6d-GOLD update file for use with gold then just 8 months later he releases 5.7e with a hard-coded world.
wierd.

oh and i been in talks with Sean Ferrell for va couple weeks now about a non WG graphical version, he's talking a mobile client, i'm talking an mmo like client.
so a graphical port is definately coming, i purchased the starter engine from visual3d.net and also have been looking into several cheaper and even open sourced 2d client engines, so it can either be like wow or be like ultima online, undecided which will be the best avenue yet.
if this works the way i want it to, since metro has been wanting this for years i may even be able to offer majormud like this.
