Does anyone know if there is a way to use a DOS PC, using something like telemate or qmodem or any comm program that'll interface directly with a null modem cable to a windows PC and translate those commands into telnet.

I'm not talking about like a straight null modem transfer, where you connect another pc directly to a BBS and login like that, but be able to actually telnet out to other BBSes.

years ago i did it using telix and comm/ip

synchronet has a modem to telnet program.

unless im misreading what hes trying to do if you connect to the internet via dialup modem on a pc lets say dial into AOL you can then execute a program like qmodem,etc and choose telnet and go or even go telnet://address

Why the windows pc, isn't there a dos program that would let you telnet from the dos pc directly?.. what am I missing.

There's a program called NetSerial that might do what you're talking about.. it allows you, for example, to run a DOS based bbs that supports modems and make it telnet-able.

yep similar to what i mentioned above virtual comm ports etc...
i didnt tinker with much of that stuff in dialup days.

Yes, I think there are DOS telnet programs, but they don't have the macro and scripting capabilities of some of the full terminal programs that use to be available for DOS.

telix and qmodem have a nice scripting language, dont know if thats what you're looking for but i still got some legacy dos comm programs if interested.

I'm just wondering how to do it so that others can logon my board and use some of the older programs.

We came really close to getting dialup lines when we did the big update, which would have allowed people to just dialup through DOS PCs with their favorite program. I've even heard people are doing that through vonage.

It was decided, however, that we should add more features/games to the bbs and try to atleast get majormud before adding any phone lines.

no, older dos dialup programs... qmodem and telix for windows sucks, but their dos counterparts were far more superior..

telix for windows was a joke. the dos version and the SLT "salt" scripting language was kick ass.

as for qmodem for windows i kinda like that one, i been working on a deal with the people that bought out mustang software for the qmodem pro source code. they sent me the dos one but i want the windows one to continue its production.

you remember tele-mate? that was one of the first ones i remember where cut and paste and teleconference bombing macros were popular.

pro-comm plus was kewl too.

Yeah, telemate and qmodem were the ones most people used around here... I also used a pretty crappy one called comit I think.. it had a very simple scripting language, which I used to make some war scripts with.

I'm not sure how I did it, but I created one that would actually e-mail bomb the sysop of one bbs, and another I don't remember how would actually make hundreds of fake accounts.... I'm not sure how I could have automated the nickname/user_id and other information but it must have been random.

I also made an IRCII script that when a person entered IRC (before there was MIRC and everyone used a command-line, scrolling irc) - it would automatically send them to an IRCOP channel and cuss them all out.. They'd automatically get banned from IRC lol.

The trick wasn't really about writing the script. It was more about getting their account id and passwords, which I had a friend that actually hacked in to that service that gave me the password.

I didn't do it for nothing though... She was a psychopathic bitch and pissed off many people.. lol

That was a long time ago though..

yeah i remember comet, i used telix 3.15 and had another pc i used ProcommPlus on.
got into qmodem during the tele-arena / majormud era writing kickass gaming scripts.

one of them is still sold today to tele-arena players.
