Sysop and other passwords

How do i go about finding other players passwords and as well changing the sysop's password in the MBBS version.

In CNF Sercurity settings (WG or one of the offline utils for mbbs), under the 1st heading "Core Security and Accounting" find the option "VISPSW Make password visible in detail info displays" set it to yes. to change password install Global Control logon and type =PW
Enter Current Password.
->
Enter New Password.
->
Retype New Password.
->
Changed
i also have a set of freeware utilities that add a few / global commands.
one of them happens to be password changing.
but if you want to offer your users a wide spectrum of commands global control is the way to go, not as many features as global power and not as bloated as FU but so far sysops arent reporting any commands they see missing that the users use and version 3.21 will be the first version available for NT/DOS/MBBS

As for multiple TW2002 its possible, read the install docs for TW it will explan the multiple directory install. Be very carefull to follow them to the letter as it is very is to get one game reading the other games data. If you need more help thier is an explanation of tw game config settings on my bbs.

and on top of that that TW and TW_GOLD are still supported.

As for trapping a Ferringi, dont know of a command for that other than use of your indictor generator which some ships have. Set your regen rate in game settings to 30% or higher this will generate lots of them during maintenance.

The only online editor for the mbbs version is Twpro you can edit almost everything. there was a slew of addons for ferrengi, Q, etc... people made throughout the years, perhaps you played the bbs version last year? that was a downside to the WG version no hooks for us to write addons, something i hope to change if rick acquires it.hojo79 wrote:I know i played on a board about a year ago and when i did kill a ferrengi it only gave me one pay out the old version im thinking of gave me 2 different ones . Yes the game server will work on a single machine with WG. You dont even need to disable or change WG rlogin. I use the menu command line option for rlogin module
192.169.xxx.xxx -p 80xx -m Gamesrv it wil pass the user ID without any command line switch.
I have gameserv configed to accept logins only from 192.168.xxx.xxx
Their still seem to be a few perfomance problems with some of the old door games within Gamsrv. Its a real fast and easy way to add some old classic single line bbs games.
there would be no need to make a subscription service to play text based games, i was one of the ones who did it back in the day with telnet and rlogin services to help prevent local users from acquiring long distance fees but today its not that big of a market.racedog wrote:During the MBBS/WG heydey there was a guy in Ohio who's name I don't remember offhand except that his first name was Robert, who put together a service where he had quite a few of the games on a few powerful servers and WG sysops could buy subscriptions for his service and they would be allowed to use the games. I think your idea is a good one but I do think it would take some nominal monthly contributions to support the hardware and bandwidth but it would make gaming a lot more fun and keep people coming back into their local bbs's in order to play those games. It would be up to the local sysops to tell them they were playing on a central server or not but its really a big "who cares" because if they were interested in the games they would keep coming back to their local bbs in order to access those games.

ARC_Sysop with a small system id being before the user-id to prevent name conflicts and make sure PW settings are on, but could be a good way to revitalize the Tw community and get a big game going again.

TWGS isnt MBBS Tradewars, no offence to EIS or Mr Pritchard's work it just doesnt play like HVS's true multiplayer tw. It has also strayed from what tw 2002 is suppose to be in my opinion. I remember the suggestions summited to Martech's message bases, most rejected by Martech for good reason only to show up in twgs/twgold.dspain wrote:

As for running DMA I am assuming all the bbs's would require it to join a tw game network. The cost for those who dont run DMA would be enormous for each sysop, is it even possible to register still? I cant see anyone spending a thousand dollars today for it with the lack of income from users.
It would be nice to get this running for HVS's TW2002 is their not some other way you could create to do this.
I have yet to be able have 2-3 players warp to a sector and see/attack each other at the same time. I will test this again to see if the possiblity exists. From what I found in the sysop is the only one who gets live interactions with players, i could be wrong as I havent tested 3.09 but a previous versions.dspain wrote:

I think it was 308 I tested last for similtaneous user interatcions, so many versions. Their should be a 2.03 kicking around somewhere for the mbbs 5-6, my bbs or arcticzone shpuld have it.hojo79 wrote:Very impressed you guys have all lost me.
