Tele-Arena current events?
I'm just posting to ask about the current availability of Tela arena, the different versions, and prices...
How would I go about buying the different versions, and if there's demo's of each to make sure it's what I'd want to run on a new bbs I'm trying to put together...
I also wanted to ask about any editors that may be available for each version, or if there's only one editor that will work for multiple versions?
How much can each version be edited, can I take the stock version and add more places, runes, spells, items, and all of that, or are just certain things able to be edited?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and getting back to us!

Right Now there are:
1. Tele-Arena I - the original game; the larger world map. This game is currently unavailable as the code was not delivered to me completely so I have to sort of reverse engineer it.
2. Tele-Arena II - the updated engine of TA1, with a newer, smaller map. This one is available for WG2 (DOS) and WG3x (Win32)
3. A new Tele-Arena branded game based upon TA1 that is being worked on with Dan Spain. This one may be available later this year. Planned to support WG2(DOS) and WG3x(Win32).

Tele-Arena II
Thanks for the reply!
It seems that Tele-Arena II is the only one currently available, so I wanted to ask how much it costs...
I also wanted to find out if it's editable? Me and a friend of mine are trying to put up a bbs and I'm working on getting the server working... One of the things we'd like to be able to do is take TA (even if it is a really small world) and expand it. I don't really want to change anything that would be there already, but make the world bigger, maybe add a few runes higher up...
I was even thinking about a grey rune for those that are really low, befor the white...
We both love TA and would like to be able to run it ourselves and for a couple of our friends.
Thanks

very soon, today was going over the internal editors working out any typos and adding a new flag handler system, removed some debug messages, and finalized the help system, just a matter of ironing things out now and getting the class skills implemented.

i was playing around with an MMO open source project then tinkered with visual 3d a bit, to test it all out i replicated the ta town 1 - dungeon - docks - town 2 - sewers. i let some people connect and check it out and i think they got all too excited.StarCop wrote:Do I read that graphical TA may be returning in the very near future?
in my opinion TA should remain a text mud, atleast my tele-arena database engine will remain that way, the MMO i am working on is completely different and not due out for a couple years now.
TA2 supports the graphical C/S side of WG and yes worlds will be available for that.
wow, do you have any idea how many problems a usable new TA would solve on my board?
I've wanted to move to WG3 for a long time now, but ditching ta is just not an option for my users. I've been having stability problems with running the old wg2 system in windows, dosbox has been the closest i've been able to come to stable.
Please tell me you're close to releasing this thing, and that it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg..

im close to releasing the beta which will run on my servers both the wg2 and nt versions as far as cost nothing is in stone yet, its been a long 2yrs.
i know that seems long to some i get emails all the time "why is it taking so long"
bottom line is if i didnt do it how much closer would we be to a better ta?
thats exactly my point, when i started this project it was a blank file i did all my own code i didnt port and change i wanted to do it from scratch so i can change certain things in the game i felt sean did shortcuts around making it unstable as hell.
i have a few more touch ups on the database editors for lairs, docks, arenas, and actions and my server will have a beta running the first ta in over a decade, so im excited im sure alot of others are too, but just so everyone knows best thing to do is play the beta if ya wanna see it cause it wont be sold til its completely debugged and working with no issues.
price is still up in the air it comes in a 25,50,100, and 256 user version
then theres the database editor addon to edit the content, and the database client addon to load databases created by another server (optional)
i did the user versions so smaller systems can enjoy the game without buying the huge version.
I'd like to move to 3 because of the stability problems i've had on 2.dspain wrote: well good news is why move to wg3? my version runs on both

Would the license work for both the 2 and 3 version? Might make it easier for me to try it out on 2, and then migrate to 3 if i sitll have stability problems. Part of my stability problems stem from the version of TA i'm running (in order to make my changes available to players).
If you're looking for any sort of boards to run beta tests for you (not sure where you stand on this) count me in. I have a lot of old time ta players, that would love to get into a new ta, and love to give feedback.
I completely understand why it's taking a long time. I;ve seen the 5.6c source, i;ve run that game compiled from source, i've tried to fix bugs and work changes in. I think a from scratch rebuild is a good thing.
I dont want to sound like a cheap bastard, but i'd like to see a less expensive TA version. I dont know what you have in mind price wise, but keep in mind that a lot of your customers are running free boards (like mine) and dont expect anything more than donations, if that, from their users. I accept donations, and my users are kind enough to donate from time to time, but if a game like this comes along, and its got a $400 price tag, i wont be able to swing it. If your 256 user is reasonably priced, then i'll be happy.
Had a quick question here too.dspain wrote:

You've heard me talk about tap, my classic ta msg editor.
Well it has all of the classic ta data in a mysql database, and thats where it makes its changes. These changes are then output in a format that i can copy/paste into msg's, and which then get added to the game.
I'm curious, if i might be able to hook tap directly into the game database in your new version. Not because i'm trying to get around your licensing, but just because I like tap, and its nice to have an editor that i control. If i need a feature, in the editor, i add it, if i find a bug, i fix it. I'm sure you get how that works.

at first i will run 1 live beta that way i wont have to submit patches etc to sysops, i can manage all trackers from my own system, as it progresses i may allow another system or 2 to run one.VeNoM wrote:I'd like to move to 3 because of the stability problems i've had on 2.dspain wrote: well good news is why move to wg3? my version runs on both

no pricing is set yet i wanan see the finished product first, it wont be overpriced like most modules are most my modules are fairly priced.
to help sysops with a donation system there is a specialty shop that takes bbs credits that give specialty services (more on this later) i used to net several hundred bucks a month with this as well as resurrections.
Nice!
Currently i run creditless, donations get people put into a class that doesnt auto-delete for 6 months.
I like running things free, but a minor change to the donations for credits system on a new game probably wouldnt be rejected. heh.
If you're looking for a beta board, keep me in mind. If i can get the word out amongst my users, i'm sure they'd come and check it out, and give me feedback. They've been good with that with my other modified stuff.
