Whenever I login I have tons of internet email spam on my BBS to my sysop@darkside.dtdns.net. Is there a way I can change/prevent this from hapening? Any help is appreciated. What's wierd though is I cannot send outbound internet email. Thanks for your help.

Well, for me... I run my bbs at home, from a cable modem connection...

What I do, is my router (a standard linksys home router) i only allow port's 21, 23, and 80 threw to my bbs computer... I run Worldgroup 3.2 NT, and i don't allow any internet email on it, just internal email...

maybe that can lead you to an idea on how to fix your problems?

requiring auth will help, depending on how the spam is getting delivered, but it may not solve the problem. It's still a good idea.

SMTP Auth is more a way of protecting yourself. Without it, someone can connect to your smtp server, and relay e-mail to wherever they'd like. This makes you look like the spammer, and you'll end up blacklisted for being an open relay. Or your ISP will shut you down. That is, unless you have some other method of blocking relay in place.

Spam getting to your sysop account is most likely spam getting legitimately sent to your address. The only way to really stop that is to either filter spam, or disable your e-mail capabilities.

I do not know if WG3 offers any sort of spam filtering, but you could do something which uses a spam filter as your MX.

Again, this may not solve the problem, but it will help. Spam filtering isnt an on or off switch, its a best effort, and it's difficult, to say the least, to catch everything.

Turn off the setting that allows mail relaying. I don't know why it's on by default but it is. Turns your BBS into a big neon sign for spammers to use.

Yah I ended up going in and just turning internet mail off. Now you can't send or recieve.

Shouldn't have to do that.

In GALSMTPD.MSG change SMTDLOCR to YES.
