well, you can wait until the ta nt version is done.
the dos versions won't work and you can't get a license for them anymore.

TA

I would be just as happy to test it myself!

and one good thing about me testing it, is there's only two people that use my bbs:) myself and a very good friend who want's TA more then anything for the bbs!

I've got a couple of friends that already told me that once TA is available and stable, they're going to come to my bbs, so I'd love to help in any way I can..

The original TA1 isn't going beta - the new TA game is... TA1 is actually done, but I have to change the codebase a bit so that it coexists nicely with TA2 on the same system.

ahh, I see... Well, I have only two users right now, and we'd both be more then happy to run any TA, even if it's unstable and needing updates as often as you want...

Up to you, but i'd be happy to be a seperate testbed for you...

but keep in mind i have full intentions of writing a program to convert the MCV databases to BTRIEVE.

i already have a skeleton program completed that once done i will fill in my part, send to Rick with notes on what i need him to compile me a LIB with and then ill release it, what it will do is load up as if it were initializing the game by loading all 4 MCV files created by TAEDIT (tsgarn-d, tsgarn-t, tsgarndt, tsgarndd) then load up all its structures, then write all that data
to database, and w/e data you have on your WG2 version of 5.6 will now load right into the new engine.

the BETAs run on my server, this isnt something i feel will benefit if tested from outside sources, that way i can pick up crashes, instability issues, and whatever and fix it.

the beta will be broken into phases.

phase1, the editors, the game now has a menu when entering and the editors can be accessed from there or within the game by typing 'edit <what> (<optional record#)
this phase will test additions and make sure it all goes smoothly.

phase2, gameplay, i will add the game commands in groups, (grouping, combat, spellcasting, etc) and we will test this for a couple weeks, to make sure the game can be played smoothly

phase3, saving will be activated and then game will be tested in ful lswing with players playing, designers editing, etc... this is the phase that if all goes well opens up my Release candidate.

once it becomes a RC, game will be reset, and people will play like normal, while me and Rick discuss the how and whats.

then it will be released to the public, game comes in a 25,50,100, and 256 user license, also comes with a 30 day DEMO.

there is also a database client addon where you can load databases created by another server.

there is also a developer's addon where you can create game data and distribute it to other systems, the authoring system allows you to write reg#'s into the databases so only that system can load them, and also allows you to lock them so the recieving system cannot edit your data and allows you to use Tele-arena as a tool to create your own story based games.

through the weekend and next week im getting phase 1 prepped to go online.

Perhaps you could also consider a cheaper 16 user license of the game as well? LIke me for example, just a hobby, not charging anyone, just using a 16 user version to support my people. Just a thought...

the registration library is already written, 25 user is typically a "hobby" license cause as any sysop from tele-arena back in the day will tell ya one user will run like 2-3 characters at a time, and even with a strict one acct per user policy my modified TA ran an average of 40-50 online with 35 being non dupes.

i did 25,50,100,256 cause it was simple and user counts were diff than they were in the 90's.

most systems had smaller line counts cause of phone lines.

25 users is good to get ya started and as the game progresses and more and more people come you can upgrade at anytime.
