Teaching Module

Post by hiwayman »

Is there a module that would allow online learning, lessons, testing, etc.? This module could allow one to progress into other lessons based on their testing performance.

Thanks,
hiwayman

Their may be one, back in the late 90's a few of the school boards in southern Ontario formed a project called Eden. It consisted of most of the large school boards in the greater Toronto area. It was to be so kids could
do assignments and work when sick or at home.

The school board were assured by gcomm (Net village) they would be provided with additional software to run homework @home for sick kids and the abilty for teachers to post tests, quizes, homewhork etc. In appoxiamatly 1999 they began legal action.

The last info I could find the school boards were attempting to sue NV to recoup thier losses as they were never provided the software nor support. The costs went into several hundred thousands.

http://eden.scbe.on.ca/ (spammed version)

There is some more info on the subect, I belive it was Markham, Whitby, Hamilton, school baords that still maintian some info about the lawsuit. I will try to loacate that info and post it.

Their must something out thier in the way of software for wg to run a classroom, altho it was likely never finished.
You could probably make something from WG without to much trouble mould the, file areas, message bases and telconferance/video into a web module or maybe use the WG client.

Eden project was a WG based learning module that linked several Schoolboards. They would share a large database of exams and homework projects and allow for teachers to communicate with students thru the WG client software. Their would be a minimum of 6 servers with DMA access, one server for each school board all linked thru dma.
It was intended for physically challenged, sick or injured students and would allow for easy downloads of school work and the ability to write test's and exams. All teachers would have access to add flags to students accounts to access the various files in the database/file area. They would also be able to use TC to chat with classmates. Web video was also intended. The student would access the system thru a heavily customized wg client software.

It was and still could be a fantasic wg module for the schools. Just whoever makes a new one damm well better live up to what they sell.

in all reality using something like dotnetnuke would be best for today, but back then im sure WG was the viable solution.

sounds almost like something im working on getting investors to bite into.

im currently working up the schematics on the hardware needed, and have over 20 pages of the what the software owuld have to do.

in the end teachers would be able to assign work and students recieve work right from their desk, they can do the work and the teacher can grade the work all without wasting 1 piece of paper.

good thing is these 'learningpads' can also be used to write on, store data, connect the internet, and can be connected to from remote.

would save a ton of money in the end.
