Smarthost issues

Post by racedog »

We are using WG3.3 for our local amateur radio club. I haven't work with WG is quite a few years so I'm probably going to need a lot of help in certain areas so, first off, thanks in advance!!

My internet company (which I own) has its own mail server and it is the only server allowed to receive or send mail through our router. Therefore, I want to have WG use our mail server to send out and receive email via our mail server Our mail server will receive incoming mail and pass it on to our WG server. Our WG server will take outgoing mail and pass it over to our mail server for the outbound mail. I can force route the incoming mail from the mail server to the WG server and I can force it to receive mail from WG and send it to the net. DNS is not an issue as we have our own block of ip's. What I am not sure how to do is to set WG to send the outbound mail to our mail server and to receive the inbound mail from the mail server.

Also, in reading over the help files it appears that the email addresses will need to be more than just name@domain.com but will need to be something like name@bbs.domain.com. I can always add an A record and an mx record for that and since the mail will be seen coming from our mail server it should reverse with no problem. If not, I can always add the reverse for the bbs ip.

Anyone have any experience or be able to provide some help in this area.

the format currently is IN:sysop@wherever.com which will work, im currently working on the entire suite of ICO modules revising each and every one of em, in my todo list is being able to recognize the @ in it and automatically attempting to send internet email.
as to you your question i dont use WG as an internet email portal so im not familiar with its setup but ill check a few resource docs i have and get back to ya.

THanks for the reply but I think you misunderstood my question. It was not about the IN in front of the email addy but about using the smarthost. I think I'm going to deal with more critical issues right now such as dumping the website and doing something with it that doesn't make lunch come up when you see it.

yeah but atleast the 3.30 default webpages look a LOT better than the 3.20 ones.
