Tele-Arena

Post by Malakai »

Rick, are you selling the DOS versions of Tele-Arena? Some one e-mailed me earlier this morning asking me about it. I told them I didn't think there'd ever be an NT version but to e-mail you, because there definately was a DOS version out there that's ready to go.

If so, what are you going to be charging for it?

Err.. sort of. The problem is that Sean Ferrell did not keep his source kit "clean" - in other words, he made no personal distinction between Tele Arena and Tele Arena Gold and Tele Arena II.

From what I gather:

Everything up to and including 5.6c was Tele Arena I (DOS Only)
5.6d was Tele Arena Gold (minor enhancements, DOS only)
and 5.6e was Tele Arena II (new world, NT and DOS both)

I'm making it a priority to get the TA1 and TA1Gold stuff available again under the TA2 code base, and to make them available on WG2DOS and WG3NT.

problem with tele-arena is rather people know it or not ta1 was technically unfinished.
while the core game engine was complete sean had so many ideas he wanted to put into more areas,runes,etc...
thats why there are items in the game that are only available by conjuring.
and the ruined palace was unfinished, if you stayed north past the misty archway and the east intersection you were supposed to go north 2 more times then down.
i actually found a map released by jim back in 1995 where he had the ruined palace text mapped.
heres the good news though, when rick does release ta1 again i have one hell of a world that will plug right into it.
before i decided to mod my own version i did alot of editing to the game via the editor and took the world from 3097 rooms to 9841 rooms, 72 spells to 144 spells, 141 monsters to 254 monsters.

and it works with a basic out of the box ta version, see in ta1 now after ya get the violet rune from demon king theres nowhere to go nothing new to do.

after his initial re-release focusing on bringing it up to speed with alot of todays muds is key.

well 5.6d and arena5.6d were diff but tagold is so bugged its nuts.
in one room there is a trap and if you hit it when you take damage you also gain 100 gold.
so take an acolyte in there and script the hell out of it you crash the system cause it isnt a function that should be giving gold and the gold variable actually goes beyond -32767 which is bad being its an unsigned int so it crashes the system then everytime that character enters the game, boom crash, so either you have to delete their account and do a cleanup to wipe him from tsgarn-c.dat or reset the game.

theres 2 more that crash it, prolly why he ceased completing gold?
not sure.

and 5.6e was Tele Arena II (new world, NT and DOS both)

you have any idea how much of that world is done? from what i have found on your nt version it seems like a big circle of caves.
and thats about it.

excellent news.

you can get ta2 now. its not quite finished but im hoping he releases an editor to me to finish the ta2 world.

ta1 hes still putting together, give him a few he'll have something ready.

i have a highly modified ta1 for dos i recently took down to make some changes and modifications server-side when its back up you can link to it i have no problem with that.

TA II

Post by Junior1544 »

Is there any maps available for TA II?

Also, has an editor ever been released that'll work with this version?

I just downloaded it and installed it today, I plan on registering it in a few days...

Thanks!

no as the world is incomplete.

no editor yet b/c it uses a flat file databasing system and rather than make some editor to open and manipulate an MCV file i created a new engine which isnt available yet, however gives the sysop the options to edit the entire game online (races, classes, items, rooms, etc)
i got the databasing engine 75% complete and hope to begin adding game commands by the weekend.
