Upgadeing 3.2NT 3.3 NT

Post by Stoneslinger76 »

I have been upgradeing from 32 to 33 over the past 2-3 weeks. Started with a fresh instal of wg 3.3NT (in win 2k server). I have just completed a basic edit of all the strings :) Testing is going great no problems so far.
I copied all the *2.dat files from 3.2 into 3.3 so I could maintain the same user records and caller totals etc, worked no problems. All the modules moved no problems and run fine.

The web interface is alot different, strings in cfg for lots of thing like backgound colors, and many other effects/ command/ html code strings.
I have manage get the dreaded NV links out and also found the variable
[HOSTNAME.DOMAIN] very effective in replaceing anywhere that nv link is.

Anyone else added or modifed the extra strings available in CFG for a-html?

I hope to have it online within a few days.

thats the web text variables package, thats the only real cool thing i saw added in 3.3, it has some console bugs and a few stability issues, some of the DATS cannot be used and will cause problems later on, user structure is a diff size this is where the new email info was added for when signing up via the web.
i reccomend installing it overtop of a 3.2 install so the conversions can take place.

Yes I havent had a chance yet to get into the html varibales to far. Nice way to quickly change the website. As for the install it was a fresh install and seems to be running fine with the user and call log dats from 32 (only copied the *2.dat).

I have had two console lockups any fix for it?

Majormud's performance has been a challenge to get the performance out of like 32, after many days of tweaking mudds buffers its running ok but still not as fast 32.
have you signed up through the web yet? if not do that right quick just to check, the data differences are from a/h signup only.

the lockup, afraid not, there are some code additions in wgserver.c that seem to do alot of checking if its in DEMO and locks some record counts and functionality, im almost willing to bet thats it.

The weblogin works no problem. As for the console locup the one time it did it was after a screen resolution change, the other time it did not doing anything .

Here is how to change the NV add link without to much trouble, also a few other changes in General Setup/A-html variables. Open up General Setup and find A-HTML Text variables (close to bottom of list) cut and paste the BOLD html code into the TVVALxx

A-HTML Text variables

TVNAM01: HOMEPAGE

TVVAL01: <TABLE WIDTH="100%" CELLSPACING="0" CELLPADDING="0" BORDER="0" BGCOLOR="#5D78CB"><TR><TD WIDTH="100%" ALIGN="left"><A HREF="/" TARGET="_top"><img src="/images/logo.jpg" ALT="HOME PAGE" BORDER="0"></A></TD><TD WIDTH="100%" ALIGN="right"><a HREF="http://theswampbbs.dyndns.org/ad.htm" TARGET="new"><img BORDER="0" ALT="The Swamp BBS" SRC="http://theswampbbs.dyndns.org/ad.gif" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></a></TD></TR></TABLE>

Copy the above html code to A-html variable #1(tvval01 html code) and edit your BBS name.
Make a webpage called AD.HTM (be sure it has in it ad.gif)put it in webpages dir, this will redirect the like to your ad.htm and NOT the gcomm edvertisments. be shure you also create an ad.gif and edit a new logo.jpg in wegserv/webpages/images/ . This will eliminate nearly all of the nV adds and links.

TVNAM02: BACKGROUND

TVVAL02: <body background="\images\IMAGE_NAME.JPG/GIF">

Quick way to add backrounds to your site. Place the text variable [BACKGROUND] in the html code of the pages you wish to display it.

You can quickly change fonts text colors with the next few A-html variables

TVNAM12: COPYRIGHT

TVVAL12: <FONT FACE="Arial" SIZE="1">Copyright © 1993-2009 <A HREF="http://theswampbbs.dyndns.org" TARGET="_top"><B><FONT COLOR="#FF0000">Theswampbbs.dyndns.org</FONT></B></A> All rights reserved.</FONT>

Again change the bbs name to your own.

Here is some colour code links to assist you.
http://www.w3schools.com/HTML/html_colornames.asp
http://html-color-codes.info/

Hope that helps a few of you who have been asking how to loose the NV ad links.
