Port 25 SMTP Blocking

Post by The Bandit »

Does anyone have the problem of their ISP blocking port 25 SMTP? If so, how did you get around it to send and receive internet e-mail?

If you use authorized SMTP, you should use another port.. but I don't think there are any mods to Worldgroup that allows for SMTP w/ Auth.

Port 25 is dead. It's a spam port.

What about using smtp server software on either the same pc or another pc and then using the smarthost name in WG to pass to that server? Has anyone tried that?

If you're talking about standard SMTP access (with the re-routing idea) then it won't make any difference. If your ISP is blocking the port it's either doing at the hub/switch (theirs), or using the DOCSIS capabilities of your cable modem, or DSL modem. I would suggest looking at the following links:

Good luck :)
