FidoNet

Post by The Storm »

Any ideas on how to make FidoNet work with WG 3.x? I know there was a program to do this years ago but I can't remember it's name and what not. The more message bases I can put in the better. I may have to modify the message areas with the menus and what not to organize it into groups but that's an easy fix.

I have a NNTP server that is feeding several BBS's usenet newsgroups as well as a small group of groups that are MajorBBS groups like worldlink. I may be able to pick up fido and get into the nntp server then out to the bbs's

If you want a feed let me know.

That's an awesome offer. I thank you greatly for it. I will have to figure out how to make the NNTP part work in WorldGroup to do this so if you have any insight to that, please let me know.

It's not to hard.
You will need to put the ip numbers in the MSG files for incomeing and outgoing connections. If you are behind a router you will need to map the port 119 to your bbs. You then make a forum and add the echo

US:someting.whatever

The US: tells the BBS that this address is a usenet newsgroup.
If you are not familier with usenet then you know the rest.

If not all the topics are listed unfer root topics.. like

alt
alt.something
alt.someting.else

ect...

If you are running MajorTCP you need to tell it to map the forums to the newsgroups. If you are running ICO (WG3.X (NT)) then thats it!

I add the address for your server to mf out and in feeds. Set up a list to push to you and off you go.

There is also a list of fidonet groups on my server but I dont know if it is the saqme as the fidonet feed.

Email me if you (or anyone) wants to get started..

I will post a listing of the current feeds in the NNTP topic.

Is this something still possible to do or what not? I dont believe this guy ccs is still around anymore, but forums are the one thing my BBS is lacking and I'd love to get some linked bases online. I see tons of messages saying Ill tinker with this or check that out and never any follow up so thought I would check.

Thanks!

wasiting to hear back from the net229 coordinator, i have a fidonet node address but it took forever, i want a sure fire way for other sysops to be able to signup and get an address quickly.

i have fidonet working on my synchronet system and polling messages once an hour.

works great.

now im working on a way to toss those to WG.

i been talking to some of the develops of some of the tossers, sbbsecho, irexd, argus, about how to do this.
