kylons world / mutants
kylons world / mutants
ok this week or next i am releasing the first release of arcadian realms
this is a kylon's world / mutants remake for wg3.xx
i have seen several bugs in the mutants code, seen several flaws in the kylon's world door and also seen where metro dont wanan give it up.
so fine, the initial release will be v1.00 this is not a release candidate its an initial beta release.
the game play mechanics will be the same, several characters to choose from, stores.monsters than roam and wander, and a walkable map which is the same as the original with only n,s,e,w directions.
the map consists of 50 levels
i have a wg 3.0 test site setup where i will be playing mutants and a doro server setup where i will be testing kylon's world and try to stay close to the gameplay mechanics while at the same time changing it around to prevent metro from issuing a cease and desist order.
ill keep you posted on this project soon.
other things released today:
telnet daemon v2.00
graffitti wall v3.21
trivia-chat is still due to be released some time in august
arcticmud still has no release date but it is coming along great
pbpwebd is also being tested but i must admit this will not be surfacing til mid-fall maybe.

We definately need some thing to take the place of mutants. From what I've seen, it would probably be about impossible to fix.. The world is so large, and it would take up way too much time to test it all, but I've already found another bug in it, not related to the spells..
I was exploring in it earlier today, and decided to fight Enchantress-799 on lev 9700, and after a few attacks between me and it, the board crashed again, with this error:
BTRIEVE UPDATE ERROR 22 ON FILE "\WGSERV\MJWMUTM.DAT"
I got to lev 10 with my warrior OK, besides the spell problem, but there are at least 50 more levels of maps, exploration, items, stores, and enemies.. I'm sure there are a bunch more problems.
Also, not only the map and player editor are missing from the release, the c/s version was as well :/

i didnt see a call for the c/s in v4 nor did i see a map editor in that archive.Malakai wrote:We definately need some thing to take the place of mutants. that means the data buffer params were too short.

thats an original archive from majorware coulda been an update and he left it out you know those damn canadians.
the docs talk about the edito but no the c/s
dunno wierd.
Well, here's a C/P from an old newsgroup that talks about the C/S version.
Now, I don't know how legit it is, and it possibly wasn't ever released, but it does or did exist on the PC(s) of old majorware coders, like I said, if it's legit.
START C/P
Actually Mutants which was a Majorware product is no longer supported since
Majorware is no longer in business. I was one of the programmers that wrote
the original game with Eric Furrer when I worked on their dev team. I still
have the source code for the game (plus an un-released version that I ported
to WG3 with an updated client for C/S mode using DirectX (Thou admittedly I
haven't put allot of debugging or testing time into that version). However,
if you want a copy of the last version that was sold (Plus a bunch of bug
fixes I did before we passed it on to Gcomm that they never were sent) I
suppose I can dig it up and compile a module and actcode for you. The BBS
Demo you can get from a number of different sources. Finally while I don't
mind giving you a legal copy, the one thing I won't do is support it (beyond
any general questions you can post here). I just don't have the time to get
into supporting these old modules. But for free the price is right so what
the heck!
Regards
Rob

Yep, I remember that guy posting. I was never able to get in touch with him. The problem again is that he's willing to give out code to a product he no longer owns.
The C/S version he spoke of was his own updated version that was post-gcomm, I believe. AS such it never was released anywhere.
I'd love to get in touch with him and get it -- at least, when and if I can acquire Metropolis' stuff -- and make it available to everyone.

dispell this dumb lie
Carl here. I worked at majorware as a developer from late 95-97
...............heres tjhe original post...........
http://mailgate.dada.net/comp/comp.bbs. ... 01743.html
Here are Mr. Robs claims, with comments by me.
CLAIM: "I was one of the programmers that wrote the original game with Eric Furrer when I worked on their dev team"
TRUTH: Rob had no part at all in coding Mutants. The game was completed in 1992 by eric (two full years before Rob joined Majorware as a developer). It was launched on a BBS I was a member of. I started playing Mutants in 1992 when it was part of MajorSoft.
I remember chatting with eric about it in 1991 when he started it, and I always got to log into his test board to try it out as it developed and grew. Up until 1995, Rob was an unknown entity.
CLAIM: "I still have the source code for the game (plus an un-released version that I ported to WG3 with an updated client for C/S mode using DirectX (Thou admittedly I haven't put allot of debugging or testing time into that version)."
TRUTH: i have never seen this "direct-x" version, and I dont think anyone else has either. Also, it's a mystery to me how Rob acquired the "code". Personally, I don't think this direct-x version even exists. It would have been a completely unpractical, futile excersize.
CLAIM: "However, if you want a copy of the last version that was sold (Plus a bunch of bug fixes I did before we passed it on to Gcomm that they never were sent) I suppose I can dig it up and compile a module and actcode for you."
TRUTH: Again, Rob *never* made any bug fixes to mutants. eric sold the code to gcomm in 97. Also, it's another mystery to me how Rob got his paws on the ACTCODE generator as he claimed.
I emailed rob a number of times requesting his version. Never got a reply. His email is now gone. The only thing he dug up is a really bad story.........................................

Re: dispell this dumb lie
he probably got the source code from the same place i did only he downloaded it with malicious intentions. he figured noone would notice if he made a few bux selling a few registrations cause noone would care then poof people like you that worked on it come out and he disappears.jjaytee911 wrote:Carl here. even today you find all sorts of people that have acquired some sources and try to sell binaries on ebay.craig's list,etc...
the site im referring to had a majormud dos code, SOC dos code, majormud 1.11m code, mutants v3. something, galacticomm entertainment collection, some RJS stuff, few gcomm addons (fax,QM,etc), tele-arena, and a few small others, the guy running the site claimed it was for 'helping out the development community' but funny it was all worldgroup stuff nothing else well i think a wwiv 4.30 code was there, lol
anyhow it ended up being some site ran by some group wg-hack something or another and dave over at metro got em shutdown then they moved to a canadian server added the FWNT code and i think they are still there and added a bunch of slanders towards metropolis.

yeah 4.0 needs mega-fixing, i'd just run a wg2 game server to safely run alot of the older stuff thats what i do.yohan wrote:anybody know where i can find the Mutants! version that will work with WorldGroup 3.2 ?
I have 4.0 that will work with 3.0 but it crashes when run in WG3.2 ... won't even load.

Re: Mutants
Actually, Dialsoft has purchased all the rights to the 4th coming from Vircom and is now the sole owner. I recently checked with Marc and a single server license for the US for 4th coming is only $10,000.turrican wrote:For me, that would be BETTER than the 4th comingdspain wrote:you referring to the 4th coming?Italio wrote:Hello,
