Any killer coders out there, make a grafitti wall that ports to html/ansi so it
can be entered from the bbs/displayed and can also be displayed on a website.
That would be kewl, I'll register it...

i got bbs's and all to test on but im always developing something new so i got em offline most of time.

Yea I want in the mud testing as well. I will put it on the DMA server so if it crashes it wont kill the bbs. If it looks stable that I will move it to the main bbs to see how it will play with the other modules.dspain wrote:excellent, ill make ya my official test site then. i got a really nice mud coming out.The Storm wrote:I'm always up for testing. Great.. It's amazing how so many of these modules have virtually disappeared from the net over the years, but it appears that they're still on hard drives, cd-roms, floppies, and tape backups in quite a few places. So many old school sysops probably put their boards down, keeping a last backup, just incase they ever brought it up again. Most of those people will probably never do it again, but I'm sure they think about it a lot when going through old diskettes or seeing people IRL they once knew from the BBS.

To be honest with you, I'm already questioning how much longer to run the BBS, and it hasn't even been up but three months or so. There have been a lot of problems with worldgroup, and most of them have been overcome one way or another, even though there are a few things I still wish it did a little differently.
Also, hearing that mutants and crossroads were coming to worldgroup is kind of what drove me to keep working on it. I bought wilderlands ii, mainly as a temp filler for a mud until those two games came along, but I have been disappointed in it. I dont' blame any one for that, as I should have played the game more on HS before buying it. I don't regret spending the money, because Rick has done a lot to help out the BBS community and may never receive all of the funds back, but I do kind of regret not buying some thing else instead.
I told myself that when I got the BBS set up the way I thought it should be, I would give it at least 1 full year to see how it turns out, to see if it's worth still running. Even though the BBS has been running for around 3 months, I still don't consider the BBS configured to where I wanted it to be. Mutants, Crossroads, Trade Wars, a good globals package, and the door game server aren't up yet, and that's some where I would like the BBS to be before I actually say "hey, this BBS is 100% up and ready."
Well, I haven't had the funds to spread the internet connection to the new place where the worldgroup server and game servers are going to be, but I will temp get a KVM switch hopefully soon and just connect the game server up full time here. So, the game server will be taken care of then.
Next, as I've said in an earlier post, I'm also in talks with a potential future partner in the BBS. His favorite games are mutants and trade wars. No matter what, we'll end up getting one of the trade wars versions, but mutants is kind of the game we both want the most.
We've been talking about revamping the BBS already but have not done any thing yet, as it's just talks now, and there have been no exchanges in power or control, although he has already been promised at least a position as the sysop with total control (meaning he's suppose to run it and will probably kick me out of all configuring stuff lol) to the door game server.
The main thing is this. Mutants is pretty much my favorite game. No one is selling it currently, and I have no problem with getting a hacked version, and even paying for it later on when/if rick or another company starts selling it again. It's a game not only can I offer to the BBS visitors, but some thing both I and this other person will play often too. The only thing I'd play almost as much would be farwest trivia!

All I can say about farwest trivia is that gameport owns the resell rights to the DOS versions only. Another company actually owns farwest trivia itself, supposedly. If you own mbbs or wg dos, then you have to pay for it, or wait until rick buys out the line from gameport.
As far as the NT version, gameport doesn't own the rights to resell it or any thing, and there is no company selling it currently. That's about all I can say about it.
Also, what type of stuff do you have on your BBS? Have you bought any of elwynor or gameport games, or when you say it's bare bones, it has no third party stuff at all?

he aquired the source code in 2003 when he was at school in BC,Canada to use as reference in writing a program with database read/write in a dos enviroment.
he even compiled a few people some copies in early 2005 he sent me the full source which resides on a pc at my ex g/f's house and going to get that i would have to walk through the forest of death, lol
however i contacted him via email and he sent me a fully compiled version minus the registration sequences so until someone buys the rights to farwest for nt or the original author brings it back thats what i use
Well, that sucks, but I did buy a copy of tournament trivia a few weeks ago from you know who. It's pretty close to farwest, as far as the look, feel, and functionality. The only thing it may not have is as big of a database of questions.... I imagine it'd probably have some slowdown problems if too many people were in it at once too..
what kind of limitations is on the nt demo?

i wrote it and was baout to release it public then notied some wierd crashes after further inspection noticed it only happens on NT systems and only when the character count exceeds 9
after some research i found it to be in the gcomm sprintf, and stzcpy
so i gotta go through all the code and rewrite some things but until then fu globals is good, and global power for nt is excellent.
i can actually register that one for ya

Yeah, he's probably out of time or taking time off away from worldgroup.
Globals.. Yeah, I'm still waiting for a good globals package myself.. There just aren't any available to buy yet, just the free wilderlands globals which isn't really my cup of tea.
I totally understand about the money situation. Kind of going through that now, with moving and all of the permits and stuff. So, here are some free and/or cheap modules I kind of like and recommend:
For free games, I like lingo, chain reaction, card sharks, and oltima 2000, if you haven't already inquired about them. Quest for magic is cool if you like IF/Adventure games. Also, you might want to check out robo wars ii (don't be discouraged for its aged appearance - you can customize it completely) for $25.. I've also made the missing help files for robo wars, because it was missing them, if any one ever wants/needs them.

I have a couple of thrid party things that are free from Elywnor but waiting on the reg codes. I email him about two days ago and I understand he's a busy as he works much like I do and has so many things in the works.
I would buy a ton of things if I had the money, but I'm broke. Long story to go through but I will another time. Either way, the system is near barebones...hell, doens't even have a great globals package.
I have a couple of friends that are waiting on me to get them the dev kit to help me write some new stuff as it will be one of the few ways to get some stuff on there.

I'll take that global package too.. If you need my reg # again, let me know.

i wrote it and was baout to release it public then notied some wierd crashes after further inspection noticed it only happens on NT systems and only when the character count exceeds 9
after some research i found it to be in the gcomm sprintf, and stzcpy
so i gotta go through all the code and rewrite some things but until then fu globals is good, and global power for nt is excellent.
i can actually register that one for ya
I would love a great globals package: reg# 53185526 I just need a place to download it too...I'm at work though, so it wouldn't be until the morning.dspain wrote: i had an awesome globals package.

Sorry, Storm - I have been in long all-day (into the evening) meetings this week and have to get caught up on e-mail.
I'll send them to you tonight.
Dan - Metropolis only owns distribution rights for FarWest Trivia for DOS. That guy who gave you code gave you something you can't share...
Datasafe owns the rights to FarWest Trivia.
The other FarWest programs are owned by Dialsoft (Roll The Bones, Othello, etc).
