I recently downloaded galactiwars, to try out, and here's the problem. The game installs fine, worldgroup boots it up, I can enter it as sysop and all fine, but when a visitor enters the game, it asks him to make a new planet each time. Once his planet is validated, he can't play the game. It just starts this loop over again.
If a user tries to make two planets or more at the same time while in the game, it crashes worldgroup completely with a "BTRIEVE INSERT ERROR 5 ON FILE "elwgwaru.dat"
Galactiwars

Hmmm.. sounds like you have an old version of the archive. E-mail me at questman at themajorbbs dot com and I'll send you a new one to try.Malakai wrote:I recently downloaded galactiwars, to try out, and here's the problem. Great. I updated the archive on High Society.Malakai wrote:the new one works great. is there any chance that you will add an option feature to force turn change every 24 hours or at cleanup, eliminating the need to validate new planets and waiting for over half of the players to play? This would be good for both galactiwars and wow.
I don't really know how that happened, but hey!
As for that option... I suppose that could be done, however, it would really ruin the game if you encouraged too many turns to take place and only a small percentage of planets play in that time frame - they can dominate auctions, take resources, etc... and those who missed turns could fall too far behind.
What I do need is live resets of the data files so you don't have to take the BBS down to re-init the games... yeech!
Worldgroup 3 is, for all intents and purposes, Major BBS v9.x -- this codebase for Galactiwars is based upon the Major BBS 5.0 code base!!
As such, one thing missing is a smarter method to check IP addresses of players and try to restrict people from the same subnet playing in the game (dupe players) - that sort of thing didn't happen back in the dial-up days, as people paid good money for accounts...
