Looking for Menu Magician!

Post by Talonp »

Hey guys does anyone know if there was a worldgroup version of Menu Magician by HVS and does anyone have a copy? I have a copy for the MajorBBS v6.25 and a reg code but I would like to get it for my Worldgroup system.

Or is there anything out there like it?

Thanks

sorry i havent had a chance to update the archives, i have the original last catalog of files available from adventurecomm, HVS, cheersoft, and a smaller guy that ran by the name of east-side but have been swamped, on top of that i got access to a HUGE server from the 90's went offline in 2001 that specialized in file archives, not just WG but TONS of cool things from back in the day, it was linked to the blue-ridge express file server distrobution network with legacy archives from companies like apogee, epic mega-games, pkware, well over 120GB and for files from the 90's thats alot of GD files :)
cool thing was apparently galacticomm used em as well cause they have a GCOMM file library with over 240 file archives and from what the file library data says it was for gcomm personell only things like the major database source code was in there and a ton of other sources i have never found floating around, original robowars, quest for magic, quest for alchemy, a ton of cool stuff.
ill be sorting it as soon as i get a free day or 2 which from my schedule seems like im booked tomorrow and thursday but FRI i seem to have time for breathing and ill go through what i can then.
on another note i also got a majorbbs system last week that was still using frontdoor 2.20 to do fidonet stuff seems they put it in the bbs.bat file and was processing echomail at a 5:am cleanup from fidonet, rimenet, dds distnet, and doornet, that also has some interesting setups and file archives and as usualy its on the back burner :(

im making a program to addfiles offline sort of like other bbs software used to have, that way as long as a file_id.diz, or desc.sdi file is in the archive it will auto-import descriptions.
its alot of stuff seems my thursday got cleared up so i got the next 2 days to do some stuff.

I forget, but didn't the module add-on TFLE from Mountain Rose do something like that? I remember I use to Import FILE_ID.DIZ somehow into the Descriptions in the File Library but it's been so long I can't remember how. I must be getting old :(

actually not too sure, i do remember some file library utils from back then, im making a simple program to do it just because it would be easier than looking around, if ya find something lemme know.

I found it this is the description of the Module Add-On made by Mountain Rose.

MAJOR ZIP V1.2

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for buying Major ZIP. With Major ZIP the file library of The
Worldgroup will finally work for you. Major ZIP will decompress every file
in the file library of your Worldgroup, searches for viruses, inserts a
little commercial file, compress the files again and adds a ZIP-comment.
It will also read and write FILE_ID.DIZ and DESC.SDI files. We have
tried to make Major ZIP easy to install and easy to use. But before we go
into detail, first some legal stuff:

yeah what i made was a simple executable to insert into WG.BAT that upon cleanup will scan all file libraries and add any file thats in the directory but not in the database and auto-add the file description.
this will allow me to sort my incoming archives and just place em in the file lib and not have to worry about adding them it will happen upon cleanup.
also it will email the sysop on any file not containing a file description.

so now when i add files i just dump em into the directories and never worry about anything else.

Cool, does the Library already have to exist, or will it add those too?

the finished product will scan the database automatically and get the library names, right now im using a generic interface for it just to get the file API working correctly, once its working perfectly ill add the ability to open the database get the file library name, etc.....

I would absolutely love to have a copy of this, as well as the script you're using to operate it. Is it avaialble?

just about got an error last night which isnt too big a deal but i wanna get it working right.
i dont use a script i just insert it into the cleanup batch file, it supports file_id.diz, desc.sdi, and file.id.
came in handy to me as i sort all this stuff i got, it defaults the uploader as Sysop but can be command line specified ie:

WGFILE.EXE -Uname

its written using the offline utility hooks so it can not run while the server is in operation.
ill try to get a beta out, this new MMORPG i been working on has me absolutely swamped with graphic/sound licensing, propietory licensing, all that has to be done before i can even lay the groundwork, would be a damn shame to put 2-3years into developing something only to find out in the end you cant use something in there :)
im gonna be taking a break from that and getting some WG affairs worked out.
