Info on Fazuul?

Post by BladeLakem »

Hey there. I used to play Fazuul obsessively back in the day, never did finish it. I've always been annoyed by the lack of info on it on the net (except for a page or two by a guy named MinorSage). And I notice there is no Wikipedia article on it.

SO I thought I'd do some research about it. Maybe I'll put up a fan page too. I was hoping y'all might be able to give me some history on it. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that it was one of the first multiplayer BBS games. Is that true?

Any other resources/history y'all can point me to?

MinorSage is a she.

You can read about Fazuul a bit on http://www.themajorbbs.com - look under The Software -> Add-ons and Editions.

In a nutshell, it was a multiuser dial-in game system itself.. it ran as part of a system called EnterNet in 1984. It was written by Tim Stryker before he founded Galacticomm... it was turned into a Major BBS module (probably the first non-core add-on) in 1986, but, due to legal issues, couldn't be released until 1991.

Fazuul was the basis for the Logicom game ZORGON.

Fazuul and Quest for Magic together were the basis for Quest for Sorcery II.

There were a number of flavors, but really they were most likely just versions of the same game (Freezuul, Phazuul, etc)..

Sorry for the double post, but I created a quick and dirty entry on Wikipedia using the information you provided:

Feel free to edit/correct. :)

More information for Fazuul BBS game

Post by seanbbs »

Just in case anyone happens upon this website, I just wanted to let anyone know that I put together some additional info about Fazuul and made a webpage that will hopefully be easily found in a Google search soon:

http://www.seanleonard.net/bbs/fazuul_intro.html

So far I've got maps, item creation charts and a catalog of at least the items one can create. The notes section is still under construction, but I'll probably add in more details soon.

Just adding what I can do the Internet. Maybe I'll get around to posting my information about other BBS games soon too.

Enjoy!

Sean - hopefully you won't mind if we pull that info into the upcoming Wiki on this site? We aim to consolidate everything MBBS/WG here.

Yes, my website may be used for your documentation. I will continue to update it when I can. I just recently have been adding information on another great game, Lords of Cyberspace.

I'm also trying to work on a tool for Fazuul (and could be extended to any BBS item combination game) that would automate the process of creating objects. I'm trying to write it in Visual Basic, but I am just learning the tool. I have the automated item creation part down using recursive calls to functions, but rather than reinvent the wheel, I'm looking for a good telnet shell I can use.

Fazuul Telnet Client

Post by seanbbs »

Just wanted to let you all know, my special Fazuul telnet client is ready to be used. You can find it here:

http://www.seanleonard.net/bbs/fazuul_t ... lient.html

I've been testing it out, and it seems to be working pretty well now. It is just a basic telnet client, but it has a drop-down box with the items you can create, and (following the rules listed on the website) it will create them for you. This should cut back on the more tedious tasks in the game. Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
-Sean
