Horse Track Beta Test Server On-Line

Post by Malakai »

We have a beta test server on-line for Horse Track, a horse racing/betting simulation. You can try it out Option "H" from our main menu at Nostalgia BBS
telnet://nostalgiabbs.servebbs.net
or telnet directly in to the beta test server
telnet://nostalgiabbs.servebbs.net 20
(that's port 20)

check it out

For those of you who are wondering why the horse track beta is not on-line any more, it's because of some type of data corruption happening, which is stopping worldgroup from restarting at all.

Rick says it's not happening on his test servers. So, what I'm going to do, within the next week or so, is to put the beta on another pc/server and see if the same thing happens or not. It could be like some of the other modules = works on some, doesn't work on others. So, it may be hit or miss.

If you need a beta on WG2.0 I can put it on my DMA server and if it crashs that its no big deal.

There's the problem. It gets no error. When horse track is first installed, it seems to work correctly. I don't know if it's after the first person plays, or after it starts saving its own data or what, but it makes freezes worldgroup almost completely up. Worldgroup will answer, but show nothing on the screen.

After this has occured, and I try to restart worldgroup, and it gets to horse track, it never completes initilizing, and the only way to get worldgroup to restart is to either disable horse track or delete all of the files associated with it.

Well, I have it back on-line.. so let's see if it happens again

Just wanting to let every one know why the new beta test server isn't on-line yet. I've been in the process of moving for several months, and today, I was suppose to get the new wifi connection set up between the two places and just don't have the right drill for the large bits that I'm going to use to run the lines from.

I already have the spare PC to do beta testing but can't put it up until the wifi connection is set up. Maybe within the next few weeks, it'll be ready.

Rick, if you find any one else that wants to test the beta before then, no problem.

No problem. I actually was able to reproduce it. It's the third, fourth, or fifth cycling of the horse set (14 race set). I need to debug it now.

I appreciate your help, as always, Mal. Good catch. Once I get home before 7pm I'll tackle it, as I have someone looking for this game.

I'm glad that you found it. That means I don't have to change test servers to another location. So, if you get it fixed, I can easily put it back on the other test server.
