Robowars II - Betrieve Errors

Post by Toyduck »

When I try to run Robowars II I get the follwoing errors;

I get this error when I have all my mods online;
D:\WG320\wgserver.exe-BETRIEVE OPEN ERROR 87 ON FILE "wormsgc2.dat"

When I remove the other mods and try to run just Robowars II I get;
D:\WG320\wgserver.exe-BETRIEVE CREATE ERROR 87 ON FILE "gcstswap.dat"

I think this is a BTRIEVE file handle issue? -

I'm currently running under Win Server 2000.

OK, I have managed to get it to run properly (I think - it hasn't crashed the board yet) on my second board which is running under Win XP Pro...

Ideas?

increase your max files, handles, and locks to hex value 1000 (4096)

use start-run-regedit
find btrieve

Well, I hope that you manage to get it all running in windows 2000, because every comparison/review I've read about win 2k vs xp is that windows 2k is much faster at database crunching. I plan to eventually run windows 2000 myself because of it. Ya know, squeeze out every last piece of potential lag I can :/

I can't even get Win 2000 anymore out here; except used or through ebay. Been forced to go Win XP Pro, which varies for me between $139.00 and $159.00 depending on how many I buy.

But I prefer Win 2000 and Windows 2000 Server. I have Windows Server 2003, don't really care for it either, but that could be lack of familiarity with it also :)

Good quality win2000 is getting hard to find though.

Sorry for the late reply -

Those errors are not Robowars Errors, as Dan pointed out. They're BTrieve running out of resources. Simply up the Max Files and Max Locks in the Registry to 1000 (hex) and you're set for life.
