Setting up multiple Telnet to BBS

Post by nitromike2006 »

Hello:

As most of you know: I am running MajorBBS 6.25 with Vircom TCP 210 DOS version. I finally got the BBS in a very basic sort of way and I can now telnet into it I have 8 Telnet channels defined, but only the first one can be utilized. How do you configure the software to answer other telnet requests. I really only need 6 I think. The channels are as follows:

00 Sysop Local
01 Modem
02 Working Telnet
03 -09 Telnet Channels

but if someone is on 02, then it rejects any new telnets

IS there something I missed in configuration?

Also, silly question: How does one enable sysop page while monitoring. Want to be able to chat with my co-sysop while he is checking out the connections from the outside while I monitor the local sysop console.

Thanks,

Mike

err, the default mbbs was only 2 lines,
then you had to buy a new library for more,
the lines were hard coded. i.e. you used them,
1 modem line and 1 telnet line make 2 lines. :)

I guess I need to find updaters for more lines. I would buy like 2 six packs for it if it was still made :-) Anyone have the proper patch(es) to add 12 lines to MBBS 6.25.

Thanks,

Mike

I have a 256 users patch/crack in my old archives, but I'd have to get rick's permission to send it to you, as he's the owner of mbbs/worldgroup. So, beg and plead to rick and maybe give him a fresh $250, and he might say yes :/

@malakai

That would be great. Check your PMAIL, I sent some info for you offline :-)

I can't send it without rick's permission first, and there's a good chance he won't want me to send you a crack to his bbs. E-Mail him at info at elwynor dot com

they are a few cracks out there, mostdon't work with vircoms tcpip.
after you install and config it, it says no hardware channels.
I took all my stuff offline when Rick bought all the rights to the gcomm stuff. but, I don't even know if he can make mbbs line dlls. lots of code was lost years ago.

As far as I know he can still update the line counts on WG2.0

It's a pain for him to do it though. If you have a legit copy of WG he might give you a 256 line count.

I definately hadn't tried the 256 line crack with major tcpip or ico or any thing, just stand-alone, and it seemed to work, although who knows if it would have really worked correctly.

Unfortunately, my line count only goes to 50 in mbbs/wg2 with user 6 packs, but i'd really be surprised if many unestablished boards could get that many users online at once any more..

I will pursue obtaining the legitimate patches for MBBS with Rick and perhaps when I talk to old friend of mine who ran MBBS 6 through WG 2 until 1999 on a very large system, may be able to supply me with their copies.

But I hope Rick will be willing to help me out or give permission etc for the project and maybe sell me the license(s) if he has access to them or whatnot.

Thanks for the leads.

Well I got WG 1 from my friend, a full legitimate 68 user edition and I am quite happy. The only real issue is that my friend had indeed thrown out the manual and therefore the activation code, but I am working with Rick on that issue as we speak.

The question I have is, do the 6 packs for WG 1 work on MBBS 6.25?

Thanks,

Mike

Good question; I couldn't get my 6.25 6 packs to work on my WG 1, and I don't think I did anything wrong...:).

The answer is they don't. They installed fine, but a minute or two into launching the BBS, you get an error that a license violation is detected.

Either they don't work, or the "activation code" is not compatible or some such thing.

*SOLVED*

Thanks to Rick for helping me transfer my license to my acquired copy of WG 2.

I now have plenty of lines for my BBS and it is actually up and running.

This thread is solved!
