Storing IP Addresses in the Account display
According to the WG 3.2 docs, the country line in the account display can be used to store the ip address the user is coming from. I have seen it done before but cannot figure out how to make it work. Any ideas?
The docs state:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Country
Defaults to USA if not otherwise specified. This can be used for more detailed routing information, if necessary.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks!

Re: Storing IP Addresses in the Account display
You could edit the new user questions and replace the country question with the text variable IP_CLIENT left justifed 15-16 format length. You would have to change ansi, client and web new user questions to match. The country info being changed may mess up other modules looking for that info, such as a globals package. Also most users IP's change frequently so the permanent record will be outdated quickly.Ragtop wrote:According to the WG 3.2 docs, the country line in the account display can be used to store the ip address the user is coming from. Questman will be adding a username = IP who's on to DupeIP soon. More info here: http://www.themajorbbs.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=6981Drex wrote:I wish I had that for the old school WG 2.0. I think dialsoft had a program that did that, would be nice if that was added to the duplicate IP utility. Makes it easy to look up people for sure.

What I would like to see is a way to incorporate the IP into the userlist. Or at least to be able to see it with the /l command. I'm not that interested in what IP they were on when they signed up. More interested in what IP they are logging on from when playing the games. I am limiting their duplicate accounts and want to make sure they aren't cheating. I have DupeIP running but I'd like to be able to manually check it besides.
Re: Storing IP Addresses in the Account display
i have an addon that does this and replaces the /l <user-id> command to add ip info in there too.Ragtop wrote:According to the WG 3.2 docs, the country line in the account display can be used to store the ip address the user is coming from. yeah im working on a small utility to store it seperately, it even replaces the /l <name> global to add in that info.Stoneslinger76 wrote:You could edit the new user questions and replace the country question with the text variable IP_CLIENT left justifed 15-16 format length. only thing it does is add current IP to /# and /l
Since I've been swamped, I haven't gotten 1.00 of DIPC done in time. I'm also struggling with the set of reports that would be useful out of the database logs. But it includes the database which may or may not be useful for the future ultimate version. It does have the global.

NT only. The WGv2 version can't use database so I'll have to sort that out later.
