WG 2.0 and Lag

Post by Montroze »

With trying both the ico and (other, minds blank tonight, Auto sensing...)tcp users have terrible lag, so much it causes tcp/ip timeouts and the get booted, most are running vista/xp or win7... but get this, a member setup a proxy server (in Japan) that autoconnects to my board and thier is no lag! I don't have a 3comm card in the server, getting hard to find. But telneting to Japan and back to Canada with no lag simpely has me baffled.

for wg 2.0 take major tcp/ip over galico, ico is very laggy in pre version 3 dos systems, yes for some reason the 3com video cards (3c9x series) do severely improve lag issues, but others should be ok are you loading lsl.com, and odipkt?

Yes both are loading, get no errors and havent changed anything in a good 6 years.

run WGSICOIN disable internet connectivity, this will only effect galico modules, and use major tcp/ip for all internet traffic.

whats your response time reading in at?

also a couple tips when dealing with wg2 ...

use a 7200 rpm or better hd this speeds things up
use a p4 1.8 or better, yes i now this used to run on a 486 but trust me you increase performance by a ton, i had tele-arena platinun running on a p3/877 with 256mb ram switched to a p4 1.8 and users saw no mroe lag during logon, this was mainly due to cheersoft globals but you want to utilize what you can for performance.

Not really sure where to run this from? WGSICOIN - from the boards Dir?
Response time is <1 ms except after a re-boot then its higher until MajorMUD
fully initializes ( 5-8 mins) But looking over the specs its only a pent II with 384 gigs or ram, just checked the box beside this one and its specs are pent 4 with 522 (weird) ram, must be sharing. I think I will move to that box and see how it goes. Thanks

ok theres the lag i noticed a considerabely high amount of response lag when majormud-DOS was running hwoever i cleaned it up with a faster CPU and HD, i think at one point my 2.0 system ran at 877mhtz with 512mb ram and a 40gb 7200 rpm drive and it cleaned it up alot but once i moved to the 1.8 it was almost gone, with majormud especially the older dos ones you wil lalways have some form of lag during inits b/c of how it handles data loads.

oh and WGSICOIN.EXE is in the WGSERV dir, you run it directly not from the addon-utilities menu.
