Is it tMBBSv10 or WGv10?

Post by Stohrm »

I'm trying to Install the Major BBS v10 but what I'm getting says WorldGroup. Copilot tells me I should be seeing mbsetup.exe, bbs.exe or majorbbs.exe, a modules folder, a system folder, and a logs folder. However, I don't see any of those. The installation program said it created shortcuts, but it certainly didn't put them on my desktop.

I was really looking forward to getting the Major BBS version 10, but I seem to be stuck with WorldGroup.

Mind you Copilot thinks it knows everything, but it isn't always helpful. So, if what I'm seeing isn't a mistake then I just need to know what is what? Thank you.

It is MBBS v10 and is available from the website for download.

There are still some items in configuration screens that may reference WG but they will ultimately be replaced.

The file I downloaded is TheMajorBBSv10_R33_Full
I downloaded it to a brand new HP Laptop with S mode off. I extracted all to the download folder and then ran the TheMajorBBSv10_R33_Full.exe and it installed everything into a BBSV10 directory which it created. As I said earlier, it did not install any shortcuts to my desktop.
There are a plethora of files in its root directory and I did manage to find WGSSWZD.exe and again as I said it says it's the WorldGroup Setup wizard. Nowhere is there an MBBS anything. I did use the WorldGroup Server Setup WiZarD and it's telling me I need to run a Hardware Setup Utility. Awesome, except which of the 644 items is the Hardware setup utility?
Which files should've been the shortcuts? Might I suggest adding a Shortcuts folder with a simple readme that contains everything one needs to get up and running smoother.

Never Mind

I finally located those missing shortcuts. It's a new computer and running Windows 11; which would destroy my real Laptop, so I've avoided it like the plague. Thus I'm not the least bit familiar with how it does things. Anyway, with any luck, this may solve 80% of the problems I've encountered thus far. The other 20% is hardware related and, hopefully, a solution for that is in the works as well. I can't have a mobile BBS that's not mobile!
